Own the Podium 2010 is a national sport technical initiative designed to help Canada's winter athletes reach the podium at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver. The initiative is a collaborative effort supported by Canada's 13 winter National Sport Organizations, the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Paralympic Committee, and the Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee. The Canadian Olympic Foundation is the charitable funder of Own the Podium 2010.
Own the Podium 2010 is an unprecedented commitment to Canadian winter sports to provide additional resources, leadership and high-performance programming to Canadian athletes to help them achieve podium success in 2010. It is a promise to our athletes that they will have solid support from the training ground to the finish line, and it is a bold statement of purpose, setting the highest possible standard for athletic performance on the world's most demanding stage.
With less than a year to the Games, there is an urgent need to support our athletes with the crucial funds required for their final year of intensive training. I want to thank Own the Podium for their support. It was incredible for me to know that with this funding I could train under the best of conditions and with the best coaches. It also allowed me to enter each event knowing that I had had these training opportunities and that I was better prepared because of them. I can't say it enough, but I can try, so thanks again!
We would like to extend our thanks to the entire Own the Podium program. It is always difficult to be an amateur athlete and the support Own the Podium is providing us helps to make it one step closer to realizing our dreams. For us to believe it is possible to be on top we need people and programs behind us to support us at all moments of our career. Own the Podium has made a huge difference in my training. I use the funding to pay for lessons, ice time and costumes for the season. I was so surprised and happy when Skate Canada sent me the good news. This funding takes the pressure off my finances just as my season really gets rolling. I am so thankful that Own the Podium is behind all of the athletes in Canada. It gives me great pride to represent Canada and I am looking forward and dreaming of the day when I can represent Canada at the 2010 Olympics Winter Games.
